Ways to Increase Blog Traffic
Total Sessions Increased 443.90%

Here are 35 proven strategies that can help you boost readership and increase traffic to your blog.

1. Write More Often

Publish more blog posts if you want more traffic. Daily updates will keep readers coming back on a regular basis and provide more search engine traffic. At minimum, update your blog at least 1 time per week.

2. Speed Up Your Blog’s Loading Time

Your blog should load under 3 seconds or less to keep readers happy. Nobody likes a slow website. Use the Google Pagespeed tool to check your mobile and desktop loading times.

3. Remove Distractions on Your Blog

Remove distractions to place the main focus on your content. Reconsider adding extra bells and whistles such as social sharing buttons, widgets, popups, etc.

4. Choose a Premium, Fast Loading Theme

Choose a fast loading and trusted WordPress for your blog. I recommend Astra, GeneratePress, Newspaper, Trellis, and DIVID. Avoid unproven free WordPress themes on the Theme directory. Stick with the popular ones that come with plenty of tech support.

5. Target Low Competition Keywords

Most blogs do not have enough domain authority to rank for highly competitive keywords like “auto insurance” or “best laptops”. Target low competition keywords that rank poorly written content in the top 3 spots. Write something better to get easy traffic gains.

6. Write about Trending Topics

Follow the news and Google Trends to see which topics are getting a lot of attention. Write posts about these topics to drive traffic quickly based on momentum. Rinse and repeat often because hot topics will eventually cool off and your traffic will decline on these posts.

7. Write Long Form Content on Beginner Topics

“How to” topics and beginner’s guide perform best with long form content of at least 1,000+ words. Provide an in-depth guide that covers the topic or keyword so well that your reader doesn’t need to search for more information.

8. Write List Posts

Most of my top performing articles (including this one) are list posts with a number at the beginning. Humans process numbers quickly and know exactly what they will be getting.

9. Publish Helpful Content

Google’s Helpful Content Update is a major shift in the online publishing word. Focus on writing and publishing helpful content without extra fluff. Avoid using AI article generators to maintain a human element in your writing.

10. Write Attractive and Clickable Titles

Write catchy titles that drive clicks on the Google SERPs and social media. Keep your titles under 67 characters or they will get cut off on the Google search results. Use numbers, dates, and () to increase your clicks.

11. Add Images

Some of my most popular blog posts have at least 10+ images. Always include a few images that help break up the wall of text and keep readers engaged. Use Pexels and Unsplash to find free photos for your blog. Always credit the image source if you use an image from another website.

12. Paginate Visual Blog Posts with Images

My most popular article on my travel blog is a list post of 28 images with each image published on a separate page. Use the pagination feature on WordPress to break up your image content into an image gallery. More pages will increase pageviews, traffic, and ad income.

13. Post on Twitter

Tweet about your post after you publish it and use hash tags within your tweet to drive more Twitter impressions.

14. Post on Reddit

Reddit drove a ton of traffic to my blog and helped increase my visitors and daily sessions. Post your blog articles within subreddits that target your niche. Leave comments on popular threads to get more visitors.

15. Post on Facebook

Facebook helped increase my blog traffic as well by posting my articles on targeted facebook groups. Join several FB groups in your niche then start posting links to your articles.

16. Post on Pinterest

Pin your blog images on Pinterest then add your link to the URL field. Create more pins consistently to increase your impressions and drive more blog traffic.

16. Post on Niche Forms

Every niche has forums & communities where people discuss your niche topics in depth. Join these communities and post your content on a regular basis.

17. Post a Substack Newsletter

Publish a newsletter that stays in touch with your readers and drives traffic to your blog. Daily, weekly, and monthly newsletters will help establish trust and authority within your niche. Use ConvertKit (paid) or Substack (free) to set up your blog newsletter.

18. Post on Youtube

Start a Youtube channel and place links to your blog in the description field. I got a lot of targeted clicks to my blog after Youtube watchers saw my videos and visited my blog.

19. Use E-mail Signatures to Promote Your Blog

Add your blog URL to your e-mail signature to get more clicks from people who read your e-mail. Use Gmail (free) or Zoho (paid) to setup your business e-mail address for your blog.

20. Update Old Blog Posts

Older blog posts (more than 12 months) may lose traffic if another website publishes a newer, more comprehensive article on the same topic. Use Google Analytics to see which posts experienced a drop in traffic and update them with more content, images, bullet point lists, etc.

21. Clean Up Your Indexed Pages

Many bloggers do not realize that Google will index all of your blog’s pages unless you use the “NoIndex” meta tag. Categories, Archives, Author Pages, and Tags are good for user experience but offer little value to the search engines. Noindex some of these pages to improve your Google crawl budget and overall site authority.

22. Submit a XML Sitemap

A XML sitemap helps search engines understand and index your blog. Use Google XMP sitemaps plugin or another SEO plugin such as Yoast, RankMath, or TheSEO

23. Allow Comments

Comments give your readers a chance to provide feedback and add more content to your blog posts. High quality comments can drive more organic search traffic and improve the stickyness of your blog.

24. NoIndex Paginated Pages

Check your Google indexed pages to see if paginated pages are indexed. Type the following search operator into Google (site:yourblog.com) then look for pages like “/blog/2” or “/page/2”. Use a SEO plugin to noindex these pages from the search engines to boost your organic traffic.

25. Find Your Top Performing Posts and Publish More Similar Content

Discover your top performing pages in Google Analytics and write similar posts on either the same topic or angle. Give your readers more of what they want and they will keep coming back for more.

26. Guest Blog on High Traffic Websites

Find websites in your niche that get lots of traffic and ask to submit a guest post. Write a short pitch e-mail to the site owner and ask for a backlink in return.

27. Buy Facebook Ads

Start a Facebook ad campaign and drive traffic to your best performing blog posts and landing pages.

28. Buy Google Ads

Start a Google Adwords campaign and drive traffic to your money pages and landing pages.

29. Provide Testimonials

Product owners need testimonials to increase trust and convince their target audience to buy. Use the search operator: “your niche” “testimonials” to find website owners who link out to websites on their testimonials page.

30. Scale Content Production

You only have so many hours in the day to write blog posts. Hire other writers to scale content production faster. Use websites like Fiverr, Upwork, and TextBroker to find writers for your blog.

31. Hire an Editor

Writing, editing, and publishing your blog posts takes a lot of work. Hire an editor to speed up your publishing process and focus on keyword research or writing content. A good editor will fix typos and grammatical errors, add relevant images, rewrite titles, optimize permalinks, and publish your final drafts. Use Fiverr or Upwork to hire a blog editor.

32. Add Multiple Authors to Your Blog

Blogs with multiple authors receive more traffic than solo run blogs. Reach out to experts within your niche and ask them to submit originally written content. Multiple authors give your blog the look and feel of a major site such as Medium.com or Forbes.

33. Hire a Custom WordPress Developer

WordPress is a powerful CMS that can do a lot more than publish blog posts. Hire a WordPress developer to turn your blog into a data driven website like Sports Card Investor. Use real-time data, graphs, charts, and images to make your WordPress blog more helpful for your visitors.

34. List Your Blog for Sale

Create a for sale listing on websites such as Flippa to get more traffic for your blog. Potential buyers will visit your blog to see if they want to purchase it. You don’t have to sell it and can use the extra traffic to boost your monthly sessions for higher advertiser appeal.

35. Leave Comments on Other Blogs

Research blogs that allow comments in your niche and leave a high quality comment on their posts. Blog comments build backlinks and drive referral traffic to your blog. Build a relationship with bloggers in your industry by leaving comments.

36. Sign Up for HARO

HARO (Help a Reporter Out) connects bloggers with major media journalists who need quotes and opinions from expert. Join the HARO e-mail list and respond to queries in your niche. HARO backlinks increase domain authority and drive more referral traffic to your blog.

37. Keep Going

Blogging is a real business that takes time to grow and make money. Don’t give up in the first 3 months like most bloggers do. Be consistent and your blog will grow over time.
