8 Proven SEO Strategies for Coupon Websites

Many or all of the links on this page compensate me. Here is a list of our partners and how I make money.

Coupon and Promotion code websites are some of the biggest money makers online. I didn’t realize the profit potential of coupon sites until I provided coupons for financial products on my own websites. I picked high profit offers from CJ (Commission Junction) then created coupon codes for these offers.

In order to rank my websites #1 in Google, I used a bunch of different on-page and off-page SEO strategies to get click and drive conversions.

In this article, you will learn how to do SEO for coupon sites and improve organic rankings for your website.

#1 – Organize Your Codes into Silos

A silo is a proven SEO strategy to send link juice throughout your website. Silos make it easier for Google bot to find your content plus readers enjoy the natural layout.

#2 – Use clean URLs

Use a natural looking URL structure to categorize your coupon codes. RetailMeNot uses the following URL structure:

http://www.Retailmenot.com/site/godaddy.com

This URL structure is SEO friendly and makes it simple for users to understand.

#3 – Use Brand Match Sitewide links for your best converters

After a while, you will discover which pages are your best money makers. You want to send sitewide links to these pages. However, don’t make the mistake of using exact match sitewide links. You could trigger a Google Panda penalty. Instead, I recommend using brand match sitewide links.

For example, use the anchor text “Amazon” instead of “Amazon Coupon Codes”. Use the brand name of the store as the anchor text. This is also user friendly, too.

#4 – Use Google related keywords on your page

Google related keywords appear the bottom of Google search results. Add these keywords to your coupon pages to improve SEO for a variety of search terms. Your visitors will use a combination of terms like: Coupon codes, discounts, promotion codes, and deals. Discover these exact related keywords then add them to your content without stuffing keywords.

#5 – Use Date Modifiers

Date modifiers are numbers like “2015” or “May 2015” that show visitors your coupon codes are fresh. Godaddy is probably the best example of this. Godaddy constantly updates its coupon codes so people will search something like this “Godaddy Coupon May 2015”. Add dates to your title tags and page headings to improve relevancy.

#6 – Increase CTR using Numbers and specific discounts

Retailmenot shows the exact amount of savings on some of its most popular coupon codes. Starting your page titles off with a phrase like “20% off Godaddy Coupon Codes” can increase CTR in the Google Serps.

#7 – Update your coupon page often

At bare minimum, you should update your coupon pages weekly. Keeping fresh codes is crucial to success in the competitive coupon code industry. Remember to upgrade your title tags and body content as well.

#8 – Monitor rankings with a SERP rank checker

What you measure gets improved. Use Serpbook to track your keyword position rankings in Google. Find out which pages are doing well and which need improvement.

    For example.

Liverpool – Chelsea Football Match on 20.09.2015

This match played and passed today. 27.09.2015 and the new match is below.

Liverpool -Real Madrid Football Match on 20.09.2015

When people search Liverpool’s match the played Chelsea one is still showing up there. But there is this new article on site about Liverpool’s new match!

Should I use any of these meta tags to solve this? “noindex”,”nosnippet”,”noarchive” meta tag for played matches content or page.
