There’s a new scam e-mail floating around the internet coming from Hong Kong about some great business opportunity. The scammers flooded my Gmail box with this email twice already today. Here’s a copy of the email:

My interest to partner with you.

I am Shi Jianmin, I wish to bring to your notice my interest to partner
with you on this great business opportunity that involves the transfer of
fund from Hong kong to your country. I shall furnish you with more details
about this operation.

Kind Regards,
Mr. Shi Jianmin

Most scam e-mails give the full details about the need for funds upfront, but these guys play on human curiosity to scam you out of your money. I predict scammers will tap into their creativity to figure out the most effective techniques for luring in unsuspected victims. The generic “I am in need of funds” email will evolve into bigger opportunities with bigger $$$.

With all the new list harvesting scripts and services, it’s easy to purchase a 2,000 email list for less than 20 dollars. Marketers must use opt-in marketing to separate themselves from these no good scammers.

In a future post, I will show you how to improve your Gmail spam control and to delete these messages before they hit your spam folder.
