Collecting optin subscribers is a great way to promote your products, newsletters, or website updates. The problem is that some marketers fail to split test opt-in pages to improve their optin conversion rates. Or even worse, marketers have no how often subscribers optin to their e-mail lists.
I increased my optin leads by 53% in a few days using a free tool called Google Optimizer. Google optimizer is a conversion tracking program that allows you to test different elements of your landing page and monitor which converts better. In my example, I wanted to increase the amount of subscribers to my FIFA Tips newsletter. My original headline was decent, but a lot of people were passing on the offer. So I decided to test and track my results.
My Google Optimizer Experiment
I created a new experiment in Google Optimizer using simple A/B split testing. The only differing landing page element was the headline. The benefits, layout, and optin form remained the same.
Headline #1 read: “Discover How to Win More FIFA Games and Score More Goals”
Headline #2 read: “See How Easily You can Win More FIFA Games and Score More Goals.”
I ran the test for a full week to give Google ample time to find a winner. Here were the results:

Headline #2 was much more effective at converting visitors into subscribers. My list size has grown much quicker since I ditched the losing headline and stuck with the winner.
Test, Test, Test
Back in 2000, you could get away with posting any optin offer and getting subscribers. Competition was slim. Ever since the web 2.0 revolution, you can get a website up and running for less than $6 a month. The game has changed. However, few marketers split test their optin pages.
